Wedding Candles and Decorations to Create Romance

February 3, 2006 | All Wedding Articles, Wedding Decorations

Many brides want to create a feeling of romance and intimacy on their big day. Wedding candles and decorations that accomplish this are very easy to come by nowadays, but is there a way to use them in a unique way or to keep to a budget?

Sure, you have seen weddings on television or in the movies that are decked out from floor to ceiling with lit candles of all sizes and shapes. The place is practically glittering with firelight. And that is all well and good for television. But truth be told, that is a difficult thing to do in real life.

A great number of candles, we’re talking over a hundred here, will need to be lit all around the same time. This means you will need several people on candle duty the day of the wedding to not only light them all at once, but to monitor them and be sure the wax doesn’t drip too excessively or one of the candles doesn’t sputter out. So if you can afford the help, by all means, light the place up.

But you can achieve much the same look with many fewer candles and much less help. By using votives scattered throughout the reception, you will bring glints of light to every corner of the room. Combining votives with a few taller pillar candles, say on the guests’ tables or the buffet area, you will give the room a feeling of elegance as well.

Candles are often used during the wedding ceremony. Some couples purchase special wedding candles that they light at the same time. Perhaps the mothers take candles and light the flame first, then the couple lights new pillar candles from that joint flame. There are a number of ways to include candles in the wedding.

If you use a great number of taller candles throughout the ceremony and reception, remember to keep the rest of your decorations away from any open flame.
