Using the Target Wedding Gift Registry
As of 2005, the Target Wedding Gift Registry “Club Wedd” is the most popular bridal registry – even surpassing traditional department stores (Albright 2005). Many modern couples are bypassing the formal china and silverware patterns found at high-end department stores, and choosing to register for practical and fun household items offered by stores such as Target. Target also offers couples the opportunity to register for unique gifts like outdoor recreation items and small electronic products.
Creating and accessing the “Club Wedd” gift registry is easier than ever. Engaged couples can begin the registration process by visiting their local Target store, or by accessing the online registry at www.target.com. First, the couple must enter some personal information into the Target registry system, such as names, gift mailing address, contact information and wedding date. Then, the couple can begin selecting items for their wedding gift registry.
If the couple chooses to register onsite at a Target store, they are given a hand-held scanner to instantly add desired wedding gifts to their registry. Couples may also add or edit their chosen wedding gift items online through the Target website. If desired, couples can also make their wedding registry list available on the Target website to allow guests to make online gift purchases. Wedding guests may purchase gifts and/or gift cards through the website and have them sent directly to the engaged couple.
“Club Wedd” provides several special features in addition to their registry service. The Target website offers an electronic tool for couples to access customized recommendations for gift items based on their style and preferences. Couples can also view lists of popular registry items.
Target’s “Club Webb” has recently partnered with the popular wedding website “The Knot” (www.theknot.com) to provide informative guides and articles on wedding-related topics. The guides include suggestions on wedding etiquette, bridal showers, wedding-day beauty and other topics.
