Renewal of Wedding Vows Can Recreate the Magic of Marriage
August 30, 2006 | All Wedding Articles, Wedding Vows
The renewal of wedding vows is more than a ceremony. It is a fresh commitment from man and wife to make the marriage stronger. More than that, it is a great way to look back, reflect on what has gone by, and stand up and say that we want more of it — together.
The renewal of vows is purely a personal affair. It is neither required by the church nor by the government. Yet, there are millions of couples who want to repeat their wedding vows. Each couple has its own reasons, the most common reasons being:
• They want it as the high point of their tenth, twentieth or 25th anniversary wedding celebrations;
• They had earlier gotten married legally, now they want to say their vows in a church;
• They may have married on the run without friends or relatives, now they want to marry publicly;
• Their wedding was a very low-key affair because they did not have money, now they want to say their vows in style;
• They have had problems in their relationship, and would now like to reaffirm their commitment to each another
Irrespective of the reason, the renewal of vows is a great occasion in any couple’s life. They need to plan the ceremony in the same way as they planned their wedding. The key issues they need to decide are: venue, budget, who and how many guests need to be invited and, of course, the date.
There are many couples who would like to recreate the magic and romance of their wedding day, and may like to invite the Maid of Honor, the Best Man and maybe even the priest. There are some who would like to avoid ostentation, and limit the affair to the family members only. In this case, they may like their children to play the role of attendants.
The ceremony can be performed by a friend, colleague or a clergy member. It is not necessary to have a pastor officiate over the ceremony. Similarly, the ceremony need not be conducted in a church. It can be held in your lawns, a hotel or a wedding resort under the aegis of a wedding planner. Even the wedding vows may be different. They may be written by the couple to suit their mood and occasion.
The excitement lies in planning. The couple has to get fully involved in working out the finer nuances of the wedding vows renewal ceremony. They will find this activity as invigorating as walking down the aisle hand in hand.
