Avoid Using a Free Wedding Speech Template

Posted under Wedding Toasts on Wednesday 22 February 2006

Those who use free wedding speech templates make a mistake. A wedding speech is something personal. It cannot be bought in the market place or on the net. Those who sell wedding speeches are selling empty words, words that have no relevance to you or your family. Those speeches will sound hollow and meaningless when they are delivered before guests who have known the bride and the groom well.

You will have to write your own wedding speech. The best speeches are those that are made from the heart. This should be your first guiding principle. If you happen to be the bride’s father, then narrate some touching moments from her life that made you feel proud. You will find that such a speech invariably touches a welcome chord among the guests.

If you happen to be the groom then tell the guests how and why you fell in love with the bride. Talk about some pleasant moments that you shared, and what you are looking for in life. If you happen to be the Best Man then you should do justice to your role by talking about the groom. None of this should be offensive or belittling. Rather it should be like a slice of life.

Once you have written your speech you need to rehearse it. This is not easy. Rehearsed speeches often sound wooden. So, you don’t need to overdo your rehearsals. The object of the rehearsal should be to modify the sentences so that they roll easily off the tongue, and to work out pauses for effect.

It is advisable to ask a friend over when you are finalizing the wedding speech. He can tell you if the speech has the right personal notes or not. He can also help you modify your speech delivery, if need be.

Most important, you must keep your wedding speech short. Elaborate speeches are dull, and bring out yawns. If possible, give the guests a reason to smile. But don’t go into an overkill just to sound humorous. There is nothing more difficult to suffer than forced humor.

Finally, on the big day you should keep yourself mentally ready. Speak casually. Don’t try to race. Pause at times for effect. Enjoy your speech. You are among friends.

You will find that your free wedding speech brings in more smiles of appreciation than what you could have got had you bought it from an online speech store.
